Course Description

3D-printing is a fast emerging technology used for both rapid prototyping (creating prototypes for research and design purposes) and rapid manufacturing (creating the end product that will reach the market).

This course will introduce students to the concept of computer-aided design (CAD) using 3D modeling software that is both free and easily available. Students will learn how to develop complex geometries from simple shapes based on real world models or from design specifications set in class. They will then be able to import their model into 3D slicing software ready for printing.

Students will also be able to take their 3D printed models home!

What students will learn

  • Introduction to 3D-printing technologies
  • Overview of materials
  • Introduction to 3D-modeling software and exporting
  • 3D-design and modeling
